LOYALTY INDEX 2025—Two Faces of Loyalty

Although the NPS measure is very popular in Poland, the willingness to recommend or other indicators describing the attitude towards a brand or loyalty programme are still not enough to evaluate a loyalty programme.

On the other hand, measuring only hard behaviours (the impact of the programme on the frequency of purchases or the cart total) also does not reflect the whole truth about loyalty. That is why in this year’s edition of Loyalty Insight we introduced our own Loyalty Index —an indicator that combines two dimensions of loyalty in one figure:

  • loyalty in behaviour,
  • loyalty in attitudes.

The basis of Loyalty Index is a set of questions that we have grouped into two categories:

1. BEHAVIOUR

The first dimension concerns what the customer does differently as a result of participating in a programme. We ask participants of specific loyalty programmes, among other things, how often they use the benefits available in the programme and to what extent as a result of participation in the loyalty programme they:

  • check the programme organiser’s offer more often,
  • make purchases more often,
  • buy more,
  • sometimes buy in bulk,
  • happen to buy something they don’t need,
  • are less likely to use competitors’ offers / limit purchases from other brands.

On this basis, we build a synthetic dimension of behavioural loyalty.

2. ATTITUDES

The second dimension concerns what the customer feels and thinks about the brand and programme. Here we use, among others:

  • NPS of the programme (‘How likely are you to recommend this programme to your friends?’),
  • declared level of satisfaction with the programme,
  • declared level of involvement in the programme,
  • agreement with the opinion that participation in the programme improved the opinion about its organiser (‘I like this brand more’).

This block creates the dimension of emotional loyalty—attachment, affection, willingness to recommend. We combine the answers to questions from these two areas into one Loyalty Index for a given programme (weighted averages of the two dimensions). Ultimately, we present the result on a scale of 0–100 points.

Who do we show in the TOP 10 ranking?

To ensure the credibility of the results, only those programmes were included in the ranking for which:

  • N (number of participants studied) is at least 100 people,
  • these people declared their participation in a given programme in the study and then answered a separate block of questions about behaviours and attitudes related to it.

Here are the top ten programmes with the highest Loyalty Index (when N≥100):

The average rating for all ten is approximately 49.7 points, which is approximately half the scale. This is an important signal: even in the case of top programmes, there is still a lot of room for development.

Allegro Smart! clearly stands out from this group, leaving the rest of the pack behind with a score of over 65 points. This is the result of a very strong value proposition that has a clear impact on behaviour (more frequent purchases, use of the ecosystem) and attitudes towards the brand.

Why do we need another indicator?

This is not about adding another metric to the dashboard. Our goal was to create a single, coherent loyalty programme evaluation method that:

  • goes further than NPS itself,
  • shows both hearts (attitudes) and wallets (behaviours),
  • is simple enough (0–100) to be manageable and communicated.

In a world where the average user of a category is a member of more than 12 loyalty programmes, what matters is not only whether someone ‘has a card,’ but also whether the programme actually changes the way people buy and think about the brand. This is the question Loyalty Index answers.
